Barn Conversion in Weyburn, Saskatchewan

In April 2016, the Regina Creative Door branch was given the unique opportunity to covert an old barn in Weyburn, Saskatchewan into a multi-purpose event space.

"The client was initially unsure how she intended to use the space, but a friend's suggestion to rent the barn out for weddings and events inspired her to invest in the space for a source of income," says Kim Stynes, outside sales representative for the Creative Door Regina office.

As a distributor of Creative Door products, Prairie Sky Co-Op in Weyburn reached out to Creative Door to partner with us on the project. Creative Door was tasked with adding a modern element to the space while still preserving the building's character. To create a one-of-a-kind venue, our Regina branch opted for the modern Garaga California overhead door.

"Faux glass paneling floods the space with natural light, and the white framing matches the barn windows," says Kim. "The door enhances the building's charm – but with a contemporary twist."

Since the barn isn't fully insulated, the door also helps make the space more energy efficient as it allows more sunlight to penetrate through the barn which helps regulate the temperature inside. In addition to being fitted with weatherstripping, the door's aluminum frame makes it lightweight and easy to manoeuvre.

"The barn will be outfitted with a dance floor, stage, and bar while the second level will be converted into a bridal suite," says Kim. "The grounds surrounding the barn provide the perfect backdrop for photos, truly making it a one-stop shop for weddings."

This is the first project of its kind for the Regina branch, but they know that it won't be the last. "There isn't a project that our branch can't handle," says Kim. "Pushing the boundaries is what gives us an edge in the industry."
