Creative Door Invests in New Technician Certification Program

In January 2015, the Canadian Door Institute (CDI) announced a new Door Technician (ODT) certification program available to technicians working in the field. Certified ODTs are recognized for their expertise and understanding of workplace safety as well as the installation, service, and repair of commercial doors. In addition to raising the profile for ODTs, the certification program aims to standardize professional practices to create a safer and more productive work environment.

It was our very own Alex Shorten, a technician at Creative Door's Edmonton branch, that became the first in Canada to receive the newly available Level I ODT certification.

"I heard about the program during a staff meeting and when I learned that I was eligible to participate, I didn't think twice about it," says Shorten. "These credentials can open a lot of doors and hopefully help me advance in my career."

The CDI certification program is a comprehensive course that involves independent study of the material and an online final exam. Upon receiving Level I certification, ODTs are eligible to enroll in the Level II training course to further refine their skill set.
