In May 2017, employees from Creative Door's Edmonton branch grabbed their gloves and garbage bags and headed to the community of Maple Crest to support Look Master Builder's annual Team UP to Clean UP event.
Sprawling over 300 acres in Southeast Edmonton, Maple Crest boasts high-end family homes, scenic parks, woodland walking trails, and 75 acres of wetland and wildlife reserve. As an up-and-coming community, home construction is a common occurrence with new neighbourhoods springing up every year. Look Master Builder, one of Creative Door's preferred home builders, has played a large role in the community's new home development and has been committed to preserving the area throughout the construction process.
As is the case on many active construction sites, garbage and debris can often get scattered throughout the surrounding area. Freezing weather can make it difficult to clean since litter gets layered beneath snow and is revealed during spring thaws. As part of their ongoing efforts, Look Master Builder teams up with their building partners to clean up litter throughout communities impacted by their ongoing construction as part of Edmonton's Capital City Cleanup program.
When Creative Door's Edmonton branch was first contacted by Look Master Builder, employees were eager to help with the cleanup. Along with several other volunteers, Creative Door employees helped collect over 15 bags of garbage in Maple Crest. For one Creative Door team member, it was a truly rewarding experience.
"The positive feedback and appreciation from the community was overwhelming," says Teresa Christensen, outside sales representative for Creative Door Edmonton. "It's a reminder of how important it is to get out and get to know the people who make up the communities where our own employees live and work."
For Creative Door, volunteering helps us give back to the communities we serve and build relationships with local businesses and our industry peers. Learn how you can get involved with Capital City Cleanup and follow us on Twitter to see our employees in action at this year's Team UP to Clean UP.
