Giving Back to Local Food Banks Across Canada

Creative Door Kelowna Branch

In 2016, Food Banks Canada released the HungerCount 2016 reporting on hunger and food bank use in Canada. In March 2016 alone, 863,492 Canadians were helped by a food bank and eight out of 10 provinces saw an increase in food bank usage.

With the need for food bank donations greater than ever, Creative Door's eight branches across Western Canada came together to compete in the company's annual 12 Days of Christmas Food Bank Drive with one goal in mind: to collect as many items across the organization as possible to support local food banks.

For 12 days during the month of December, each branch collected food bank donations and were awarded a point for every item that they collected. Bonus points were awarded for food items that were aligned with the day's 12 Days of Christmas theme (e.g. three French hens) as well as for bringing in items that are most needed by the branch's local food bank. Some of these items include pasta, whole grain cereals, and canned vegetables or fruit.

The branch with the most points at the end of the twelve days received $1,000 to donate to their local food bank in addition to all of the food items collected by the branch.

This past year, Creative Door collected over 1,650 items and over $1,000 in monetary donations across the company, with the Saskatoon branch earning the most points per person.

The food drive has grown into an event that is near and dear to the hearts of Creative Door employees across the country and is a tradition that will continue for years to come. Visit foodbankscanada.ca to learn more about Food Banks Canada and how you can get involved.
