5 Halloween Decorating Tips for Your Garage Door

Black and white graveyard scene

Tired of the traditional jack-o'-lanterns and cotton cobwebs? Kick your outdoor Halloween display up a notch with these 'scaretastic' ideas!

1. Door 'O Heads

Cover the front of your garage door with plain, black paper and, using temporary hooks, hang as many motion-censored talking heads as you can find. Ghoul, witch, zombie, and skeleton heads can be found at most Halloween supply stores. When trick-or-treaters pass by, your garage door will come alive with screams and cackles.

2. Supersized Spider Web

With your garage door open, string craft batting from corner to corner to create a large web. Use fishing wire to hang large plastic spiders and other bugs in front of and behind the web. For an added touch of fright, use strategically placed speakers to play sounds of scurrying, crawling, and clicking. You'll have trick-or-treaters searching around their feet for creepy crawlers.

3. Who's Your Mummy?

For a more family-friendly display, wrap the front of your garage door with strips of white craft paper or toilet paper, then cut a set of eyes out of construction paper and tape them to the centre of the door to make your mummy come alive.

4. House of Horrors

For an easy and inexpensive display, purchase 'Do Not Enter' or caution tape from a Halloween supply store and attach it to the front of your garage door. Boost the scare-factor by leaving your garage door open a crack and placing plastic pools of "blood" near the opening to make it look as though it's seeping out.

5. Spooky Scenes

Stretch a white sheet across the exterior of your garage door and project classic Halloween movies or a scary graveyard scene onto the door. You'll set the scene for your haunted house and attract curious trick-or-treaters.
