Christmas is the season for giving back, and what better way than helping Edmonton’s homeless community stay warm this winter! Creative Door’s Edmonton branch showed compassionate spirit by making an impact with SantaYEG this past Christmas to help those less fortunate in our city.

The SantaYeg charity buzz began three years ago by a fellow Edmontonian, Jeff Tetz, to raise awareness about social services offered to those in need during the holiday season. After noticing that there were more than 1,000 chronically homeless individuals in Edmonton, out of which 22% were unsheltered, Tetz took the initiative to start SantaYEG, hoping to help the homeless stay warm and well-fed during the bone-chilling winter season. This has since evolved into an ever-growing food and clothing drive named, Delivering Compassion, where big names like Original Joe’s and State and Main deliver warm meals to the homeless, along with the clothing collected from other donors.

In fact, SantaYEG even got a shout-out from Oscar-winning actor, Jamie Foxx, when the founder, Tetz, ran into Foxx at a local Denver hotel. Social media has played a pivotal role in the success of the Delivering Compassion campaign, especially after getting celebrity endorsement and gaining global attention. Creative Door’s Edmonton team was delighted to get behind the cause and help out the homeless of Edmonton stay warm and to make a difference in their lives.

Our Edmonton branch collected numerous bags of warm clothing throughout December, including socks, toques, scarves, thermal underwear, mittens, jackets, and snow pants. With an ever-growing homeless population in Edmonton, Creative Door hopes to continue making a difference in the lives of those in our community that will greatly benefit from a little extra compassion.

There’s no better feeling than helping someone in need, and it’s truly gratifying to see our Edmonton team bind together to make an impact in our community. Congratulations to the Edmonton branch on demonstrating excellent teamwork to touch the lives of those who need the help the most this holiday season.
