The leaves are changing colour, and it’s that time of year where Creative Door Services plans its annual fundraising campaign in support of various charitable organizations that strengthen our Alberta communities. This year’s chosen organization is the Edmonton Humane Society (EHS), and the Edmonton and Corporate teams joined hands to support a worthy cause.

Spearhead by three fabulous ladies in our Edmonton team, Ashley, Noha, and Thireshnee, the fundraising initiative was a small, yet impactful way of giving back to the community. The team worked together to organize a delicious and successful barbecue and bottle drive that not only left people returning to their desks with filled bellies and smiling faces, but also warm hearts having supported a worthy cause.

“Choosing the Edmonton Humane Society was an easy decision,” says Noha. “We wanted to support a non-profit organization within the community and close by our office. In one way or another, we are all connected to the love and care for animals and pets. The Creative Door Services team discussed what would be most attractive to all team members, and animal welfare was a unanimous decision that everyone was more than happy to support.”

The Edmonton Humane Society envisions to be a model of excellence by promoting and advancing animal welfare in the city. With programs and services catered towards pets and pet owners, the EHS handles it all: from adoption, training, daycare, to cremation services, for all domestic species. With many of our team members being pet-owners themselves, they were more than happy to support an organization that stresses on the well-being and humane treatment of cats, dogs, and other species.

With all the minds working together, the fundraising event was planned to be a bottle drive and barbecue. Jumbo hot dogs, a can of pop, and a bag of chips were sold for $5 with all proceeds going directly to the EHS. Extra donations were also collected along with empty recyclable bottles, too.

“On the morning of the event, several of us got together to set up the barbecue and eatery area outside,” shares Ashely. “We cordoned off the entrance to the side/back section of the parking lot and set up tables, chairs, food table; hot dogs, buns, condiments, pop, napkins, plates, barbecue, and large bins for the refundable drive. It was fun to get everyone together and enjoy a delicious lunch knowing we were supporting a great cause!”

The team raised a total of approximately $312 from the bottle drive alone, another $525 from the barbecue, and Creative Door Services pitched in for the balance of $162 totalling to a $1,000 cheque written out to the Edmonton Human Society.

“This fundraiser for the EHS was a great decision. We were able to support all  the fur babies who have not been adopted into a home yet. These wonderful and loving pets provide companionship to many people who may live alone without family,” gushes Thireshnee. The funds will assist in all services provided by the EHS and the Creative Door Services Edmonton team was also invited for a tour of the facility for up to 20 members within the company— an event many are excited for and looking forward to attending.

With the $1,000 donation, Creative Door Services has officially sponsored a kennel into 2020. This kennel’s current resident is a sweet-tempered two-year-old pup named Trent but will soon host many others in the kennel. Knowing what was accomplished from this event, many individuals on the team are looking forward to hosting similar fundraisers more frequently. It’s always heartwarming to know that a small contribution can go a long way in improving the life of another, be it cat, dog, bird, or human.
