Mastering Beachfront Living in British Columbia

Many homeowners dream of living steps from the ocean. For one Creative Door customer in British Columbia, that dream became a reality.

In April 2016, Creative Door was putting the finishing touches on a garage door install at a two-story beach front property in Tsawwassen, British Columbia when the customer shared his vision of having his home open to the ocean air. To help him achieve his design, Creative Door found a solution that would allow him to open an entire wall of his living room facing the ocean.

"Traditional windows would have done a disservice to this property's view," says Mike Van't Hullenaar, commercial sales consultant at Creative Door's Vancouver branch. "The best solution was to allow the customer to open up his living space whenever the weather permitted."

Van't Hullenaar selected the Richards-Wilcox model A175 from the Alumatite Series of garage doors for the project. This model offers a stunning full-view aluminum door with sealed, tempered glass windows in all sections.

When opened, the sectional overhead door travels along a track system, tucking it against the ceiling of the living room. The door was also customized to match the aesthetic of the glazing above the door opening, including the window glaze and silver anodized colour.

From the comfort of his couch, the customer will now be able to feel the warmth of the sun during hot summer days and have a front row seat to breathtaking sunsets.

"Whether the door is open or closed, the view of the ocean is never compromised," says Van't Hullenaar. "We worked very closely with Richards-Wilcox to ensure we exceeded the expectations of the customer."
